Peter and Paul Fortress of St Petersberg

Peter and Paul Fortress is built on an man made island and is to protect the land upriver where two rivers that join at this site. The Romanov family of czars that reigned for 300 years is buried in the chapel on this island.

For the past several years many tons of sand have been hauled to the beach on the island and there is a sand sculpture contest. We sat down by this man to see what had been sculpted. The theme was something about movies. See if you recognize any of the characters.

The air was hot and sand was hotter and the water of the river was a welcome relief to the feet.
